The London Stock Exchange is the world’s premier international equity exchange and a leading provider of services that facilitate the raising of capital and the trading of shares.  There are over 3,000 companies quoted in London, with a total market capitalisation of more than £4.1 trillion.  The Exchange is the most international equities exchange, by trading, in the world and Europe's largest pool of liquidity.

The Exchange offers a choice of three markets to suit the differing needs of our customers: the Main Market, AIM and PSM.

The Main Market is the Exchange’s principal market for more established companies and is currently home to some 1,358 UK companies and 334 overseas companies with a total market capitalisation of more than £4 trillion.  A listing on the Main Market gives companies a ranking alongside some of the world’s leading companies and also boasts a concentration of experienced institutional fund managers keen to invest in larger, established companies and high, yet less prescriptive standards of regulation which make it attractive to both companies and investors.

AIM is the Exchange’s market for growth companies and since its launch in 1995 has become the world’s most successful growth market, enabling more than 2,000 companies to raise over £20 billion in capital.  The success of AIM is built on a simplified regulatory environment, designed specifically for the needs of smaller companies.  AIM enables smaller companies to gain access to international investors, to raise capital for growth and acquisition, and to enhance their global profile.  Currently there are more than 1,330 companies admitted to AIM (of which 220 are international), with a combined market capitalisation of £57 billion.

The Professional Securities Market (PSM) enables companies to raise capital through the issue of specialist securities, such as debt and depositary receipts. Listing on the PSM enables issuers to gain from a flexible and pragmatic approach to regulatory requirements, whilst institutional investors gain the assurance of investing in listed securities.

The Exchange has a long association with companies operating in the CIS and Russia, with eight companies with assets in the CIS joining the Exchange in the past year, raising $5.7 billion in total.  At the same time, smaller companies with assets in the region also have had an opportunity to raise capital on AIM.
